Dr. Carmalt grew up working around as many animals as possible. She cared for Guinea pigs at a local caviary, carried rabbits to judging tables, worked with guide dogs and volunteered at the Random Country Ridding Program, where she taught children with disabilities to ride.
This hands on volunteering transitioned to work as she put herself through college in the Veterinary Technician Program. There she acquired the skills that eventually led to the opportunity to access the Masters Degree Program at the University of Saskatchewan in the field of Toxicology.
Kathryn graduated from the WCVM in 2015, becoming a veterinarian in what felt like a natural progression.
When not working, she can be found walking her dogs, painting, climbing and spending time with family and friends.
